day one

Oct 13 2010

Today is my first day of my two week raw food diet. My goal is to document all of the food I eat, the cost of the food, and how I’m feeling about my lack of cooked food consumption.

Last night, I ate my last cooked meal of a grilled cheese, fries, and sweet tea. I savored that meal, like an inmate on death row. But as I’m going on with my day, I’m realizing how little cooked foods I actually eat. My snack and breakfast are exactly what I eat everyday, before I started this diet.

Breakfast: Banana, water ($0.19)
Snack: Pure Cherry Cashew bar, water ($1.49)

raw research

My main concern, while attempting this diet, is having a balanced diet and avoiding malnutrition and hunger.

  • A diet (at least) 75% fruits and veggies
  • NOT heating food above 116 degrees
  • Harder to intake proper amount of vitamin B12, calcium, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids
  • Eat almost twice the iron as non-vegetarians
  • Eat at least eight servings a day of calcium-rich foods
  • Eat fortified foods for vitamin B12
